Well I am tinting the rear screen and rear sides on my passat and I have watched video's on the tube (but they all have clean workshops and unlimited tools!).

does anyone have tips on how to get best results?

I have done 1 small side window and it looks ok but It was a real pain to fit!!! I am cutting the film using the outside of the windows for a template and I am using lots of water and a good squeegee thing (and don't say pay someone..I'm a yorkshire man and too tight for that!)

i have not done car windows but spent the last 3 days tinting the work windows haha
better the more ya do, my best advise is dowse it with water and fairy slip mix and go from there!
try doing it in a vets where animal hair is everywhere no matter what ya clean before hand.
mine turned out ok but alot of pulling back off, taking hair off then re spraying and placing back down again!
edges are defo the hard part, i was thinking of doing mine and if i did i would probably do what you have done by using a template ;)
hth

Believe me its a dead ringer for you! Even says something stupid!

Ive got some of these but i haven't got round to fitting them yet. They are precut so takes the difficulty of getting neat edges away =] not expensive.

rear screen will be a pain bud, i doubt one sheet will cover it so you will have to line the edges up.  very very hard to do a good job.

windows out would be your best plan but easier said than done.

lots of soapy water and LOTS of patience and you'll get there!

we have a guy come into work that does them professionally, he shrinks the film slightly first before cutting to get it to shape the window, then cuts the film to the edge of the "dot matrix" (rear screen) he then soaks the window in soapy water, soaks the film in soapy water as he's peeling the film off, then fit to screen and squeegy out all water, if any small bubbles appear around edges he uses a hot air gun and squeegy to get rid, if they are in the middle, leave to dry and then use very sharp blade the next day to slice the film slightly and squeegy out again.
hope this helps

As chuff said, I got these blinds and they are magnificent.

two go on the side windows and two fit the back window. Get colour instructions emailed to you by the supplier as the black and white printed ones that come with the blinds are useless.

Once I got the colour instructions it took me a couple of minutes to install all the blinds.

well I can say I'm fooking useless at fitting tints (the weather doesn't help either!)

so I am going to look at blinds (luckily the roll of film only cost a tenner and will be used somewhere else!)
