Clutch wont engage
« on: 29 May 2011, 20:39 »
As some of you know me and Kells are doing his engine conversion, he bought a valver for the gearbox/linkage/clutch set up for his 1.8T but the car was too good to break and we decided to put his old 8v Gearbox/linkage/clutch into the valver so his mate could buy the car. We installed all the 8v gear into the ABF, pressure plate, clutch, flywheel, gearbox, cable and rod shifter, however, the clutch now seems to be disengaged all the time, can put it in any gear and the wheels spin freely like its in neutral (The car is still on the axle stands) Have removed the clutch cable so the clutch arm is fully down and still the same thing, the cable works fine when on and pulls the clutch arm up as it should, verything was installed as it was in the 8v so in theory there should be no issue.
If we've put the clutch in the wrong way round, would this cause this problem, I sat all the bits inside each other as they came off the 8v but we've moved that much stuff about the clutch may have been taken out of the flywheel and put back in the other way round before fitting to the valver.  :undecided:
I know we could drop the box off again and have a look but if we can avoid this it would be a bonus.
Any help appreciated.
Cheers.

Pressure plate can go both ways, did you fit the rod back in the center along with the plate etc.
