Running on three cylinders
« on: 05 April 2005, 10:59 »
I have a MK2 golf GTI 16v 1990 over the last few months I have noticed that there has been an intermitted problem, where I slow down in traffic, the revs drop by about 250RPM and it sounds like its only firing on three cylinders.

Just over two weeks ago I changed the HT leads thinking that is the problem but it has now started to do the same thing but at higher revs and I have found that if I pull over and turn the engine off for a few seconds and start again the problem as gone.

Any Ideas?

i have a similar prob with my 16v(late 89) - noticed it is running on 3 cylinders and like yours is not too smooth in traffic. checked the injectors and one of them is not working too well so i will be changing it soon to see if it cures the prob (if not will have to try something else but it needs doing anyway).

it's easy enough to test them - you just get an empty jam jar and get someone to start up engine while u hold the injector in the jar and look at how well it is spraying, switch off, replace and repeat with others.

hope this helps

Cheers I have changed all four injectors in the last 18 months so I'll have a look at them.
Any more ideas please post them

Cheers Lee
