Front Wheel Judder
« on: 07 June 2011, 08:48 »
Yesterday, the car had a new steering rack, both n/s and o/s tie rod ends replaced, uprated steering rack mounting bush kit fitted and the front wheels realigned.

Before the rack was fitted, the front wheels of the car juddered and the steering wheel would wobble whenever I went over speed humps or uneven ground. The car was taken to the garage and the technician said the top mounts were shot, so they were replaced.

Problem not solved.

So, I thought I will see what happens after the rack has been replaced.

After the work was done, on the way home yesterday, driving along the M25, I noticed when you reach a certain speed the front wheels began to judder again and this caused the steering wheel to start juddering too. This is really becoming a nuisance and was wondering what else would be causing this problem?

I am nearly at the point of selling the car, as it is really becoming a real money pit at the moment

Try having the wheels rebalanced and check their pressures too

I assume it starts juddering around 50mph or above?

Thanks Rhyso.

They start to judder after 70mph. I will find another garage and have them realigned again and see if it makes any difference. If it makes no difference, what else could cause this problem?

You could have a flat spot on the tyre possibly  :undecided:  I had a similar issue when running winter tyres, damn car juddered from 70mph on.  As soon as I swapped back to my 18's and summer tyres it went so I can only assume there's a fault with the wheels / tyres.  I had them rebalanced several times with no luck

I have the standard 16" Monty 1's fitted. Three new tyres fitted and balanced by etyres just before Christmas last year.
