Central Door Locking problems
« on: 01 January 2011, 13:03 »
Same problems that _Adam_ had last year.  No power to drivers door mirror and central locking for Drivers door doesn't lock.  All other equipment on the door is fine (windows/fuel filler cap etc).

Anyone actually solved this problem yet?  Would love to know the answer as it's driving me crazy :angry:

(contacted _Adam_ viamembers e-mail but noticed he's not been active on the forum for a few months)

hello everyone -
i'm saddened to say that my problem has not been sorted. it's being a right pain in the ass now as i'm developing lots of scratches around my key hole and it's just a right pain every day, and a bit of an embarassement.

my symptoms are;

Drivers door lock does not respond to remote commands (key or interior lock switch)
Drivers wing mirror has no activity - both movement and indicator.
Interior alarm red led no longer blinks.
12v Socket (cigarette) has no power

the only electrical modifications i have made are;
xenon hid kit to headlights
jvc head unit with sub and amp in boot.

i had a good tear apart today in trying to find a loose connection, and had no luck. i literally had the whole center console off but was unable to trace the wiring all the way back. i can't see where the earth point is to check for corrosion etc, but it's a possibility to the cause. furthermore - i disconnected the door wiring loom to check the connections, and when i connected all back up, i now have an 'airbag fault!' on the dash. tried disconnecting the battery for 4 hours to clear this but it did nothing.

i can't count how many times i've checked every fuse, and i've even tried a spare in each empty slot just incase it's missing. (spurgey, would you mind posting a pic of your fusebox so that i can compare?)

i don't want to spend a fortune at vw fixing this so would apreciate ANY help or suggestions.

Cheers

Adam

Well good news today - i went to a local "VW Specialist" who cleared the airbag fault right away for £15.

After speaking about my locking problem he seemed to have a fairly confident idea that he know how to rectify this. People have discussed the door locking module in the past but due to the wingmirror, indicator, alarm LED etc being affected - it got dismissed.

The guy said that the module interlinks with alot of other components and in places "piggybacks" off them, and he seemed sure this would rectify the problem. He also gave me a guarentee, that if the problem still persisted, he could get a full refund for parts, which will be around £90.

As i dont want to drill off the inner plate of the door myself, does anyone see any reason to not go ahead with this?

ok, i feel like i'm talking to myself here, but i may have the cure.
i have put the car into a garage to fix this once and for all.

he quoted me £180 fitted for a new door lock module which should fix all of the issues. i will post later on to confirm or deny the results!

ok, car is FIXED

for anyone who has a problem with power issues listed above, get the door lock module replaced. part is around £110 from dealers and it fixed everything including the speaker and the red LED for the alarm.

fruity electrics eh?  :shocked:
