Right it is me again your friendly but clueless female. So the P reg 8v GTI problems persist.

It is getting worse.

Started out with a car that would run fine but cut out randomly.
following a full service and VAG.COM, new distributor, new shocks car kept on cutting out. cleaned throttle body, new crank sensor and a return trip to fix a loose servo.
Car then runs about 10 miles then does some violent juddering and cuts out. Starts again but cuts out as soon as you touch the accelerator. Someone has said fuel pump?
I could cry the car is getting worse not better and I feel like I have spent too much now to give up. I'm having someone do another electrics VAG dooh dah done.
Any ideas? Other than petrol and a lighter?

Well I didn't break it the mechanic did. Who is now working for free no less. I dont know where the crank sensor is from I'll ask - it was about fifty odd quid. I'm going to replace the relays 30 and 167 anyway. Why is it getting worse?

have faith, when it starts working again there'll be the car-love again!

If you haven't - its worth new plugs, leads, dizzy cap & arm and coil.  But get a GSF or genuine parts, cause the cheap ones will cause their own issues!

Relays won't hurt and are cheap.  Crank sensor (under the oil filter on GTI's if fitted) worth checking - quite common to have burn't away wires from oil leaks, etc.  Get the GSF one if you do - running one on mine - quite fine.

Finally check for hose leaks (splits, cracks, gaffer tape etc) and is it comming up to temperature?  90c on the dash?

Doesn't sound like a fuel pump - thats grasping at straws.

I would say if it cuts out when it gets warm...it's either a relay (fuel or ecu) and possibly the temp sensor as both are common issues giving symptoms like yours

to check replays touch them when the problem starts and see if there really hot or stone cold, On the coil idea this would normally be a lot worse when it's wet (as they seem to dry and crack with age!) and a spray off wd40 over it should make the car run better
