Need a few bits so seeking a bit of advice!
« on: 30 April 2011, 00:32 »
I've used all my Dodo Juice Born to be Mild shampoo so I need to get some more. Been looking on Waxamomo and there are plenty of options. Just wondering what peoples opinions/experiences are for the products. Obviously I used BTBM and was pleased with that but the Sour Power one caught my eye as it says it adds a little wax with every wash. Read good things about the chemical boys products too so I'm unsure of which to get this time round.

I'm also gunna get some decent polish. All I have at the moment is Mer Polish and it is a right pain to buff off. I will be applying the polish by hand so what can people recommend? I have some applicators pads but what is good to buff the polish off with after applying it?

Not sure if it makes a difference to what I should use but my car is reflex silver and I already have Dodo Juice Light Fantastic Wax.

One last thing. Do you polish then wax or visa versa?

polish then wax ;)

as you are applying polish by hand id recomend and all in one which cleanses and seals in one application which will give you a good base for the wax, chemical guys all in one polish is good stuff which has sealant in it, dodojuice need for speed is is even better imo, very easy to apply and remove and leaves a great finish, it also contains a bit of carnauba, which can also be topped with a wax for extra bling and protection.

shampoo: sour power is very good, cleans well and leaves a nice finish but id suggest sticking with btbm for your regular washing or even consider supernatural shampoo.

hope this helps

I'm using supernatural shampoo atm and i'm not a big fan tbh, i got it to replace megs nxt which i really liked, it cleans ok but not as much lubricity as i'd like and not overly sudsy when mixed to correct ratio, it'll last ages (unfortunately) but it is a bit expensive. Just my 2p.
I'm going to try chemical guys maxi suds next.

i'll stick with the BTBM then. Any more recommendations for polish and a cloth/mit to buff it off with?

I found BTBM was great for weekly washes but otherwise lacked in cleaning effort. I'm now using Duragloss 901 and find it better.

For hand polishes, AG SRP was found the be one of the better ones. Use a foam pad to spread it and use microfibre to buff.

I use these to buff mate, seem to work fine for me.

I also use these when using dodo red mist (spray sealant) as a final buff because microfibres just won't cut it, you won't need them for wax though.

agree with this, i bought supernatural, used it once, didnt like it, so went back to using cheap carplan shampoo, as it suds better, and i dont really mind having to use more product, although im now using megs ultimate wash and wax, but saying that, supernatural is still a very good product if it does what youre after

Supernatural shampoo is an acquired taste, as you get no 'suds' which most people like and expect from a car shampoo.  It does however have a crazily high dilution ratio, the most expensive cleaning additives and is very, very friendly to your waxed finish, which a lot of the cheaper, bulked out shampoos are not.

Even though it's 'technically' good, I don't enjoy using it, so prefer their BTBM shampoo, which is one of the best out there.  I also like Optimum Car Shampoo (the shampoo, not ONR) and Duragloss 901.

Polish wise, look at AG SRP as suggested, or something like Carlack 68 NSC from CYC, which has got to be one of the best paint cleansers out there.  Dodo Juice Lime Prime is a good choice too, or as suggested, NFS, which is the same product but with added protection.  I'd avoid Lime Prime Lite though, as it can be very tricky to remove (you have to literally wipe on, wipe off else it can get messy!) and doesn't offer anything over standard LP or NFS IMO.

Lime prime lite has to be worked in properly. I used it incorrectly and it was a pig to get off.

The dodo juice guys showed me how to apply it properly. Like all dodo products, use the minimum amount. Spread a drop over an area and then work it in until there's no residue left, and buff. Kinda like polishing by hand.
