Goodridge hoses fitment question
« on: 02 May 2011, 23:20 »
Hi all.
Iv'e managed to pick up a brand new set of front and rear discs, front calipers and green front pads plus a full set of Goodridge braided hoses at a bargain price .They were originally bought for a vr6 so the hose kit is 6 piece.I have a late 2 litre 8v which i believe uses a 4 piece kit.I know the discs and pads are the same as are the front calipers (288mm on mine) but i notice that the kit listed for mine is only a 4 piece kit.
My question (if you have'nt already guessed ! ) is can i somehow fit the 6 piece kit to my car.I think the front hoses are the same but that leaves me with 4 hoses for the rear.
I have'nt had the wheels or rear calipers off for a while and i cannot remember the layout. No doubt one of you will know ????.
     Thanks in advance.

The extra 2 hoses are to replace the over the axle hoses.

Thanks for that but does that mean i just do'nt need 2 of the hoses on my 2ltr and just use 4 or has my 2 ltr also got these over the axle hoses that i can change as well ?.Iv'e never looked at the hoses on the car in detail and do'nt know the layout, especially any differences on the vr6 version and mine.I did notice that the 4 hoses i have for the rear are all identical though.

I'm just wondering if vr6 has 4 flexi hoses at the rear but the 2 ltr has 2 soild pipes and 2 flexi pipes instead. If that's wrong i ca'nt understand how Goodridge would be selling an incomplete 4 line kit if 6 can be used.

Be back soon, gonna go and bang my head against the fridge for a bit and then sit on the confused step

No probs,

In simple terms all mk3's have 6 hoses, 2 front, 2 rear and 2 over the axle, they only sell the 4 hose kit as changing the over axle pipes can be hard.

Hope this helps.

No, the reason they sell 4 line kits is because cars with rear drum brakes have a solid line from back axle to drum so its just fronts and over back axle that are replaced. All models with rear discs will be 6 line. Fitting the ones over the rear axle is easy. All you need is a 17mm open ended spanner and the 11mm brake spanner. Make sure you use the copper washers that come in the kit and do not overtighten the lines as you'll round off the thread, use a tight but not too tight approach. If you don't bother replacing the rubber lines over the axle you might aswell not do the job, as all the brake pressure will be put on them and you wont feel any improvement.

I am 99% sure they still have a flexable hose as well over the axle.
Thats what he said mate
