Thicker Gearbox OIl?
« on: 29 April 2011, 11:40 »
As previous posts some of you are aware that my lay thrust bearing is whining a little on start up and with the clutch engaged on stand still.

Is it possible for me to put a thicker gearbox oil in to help sap the sound? or are there any kind of additives? I will probably put some active8 in with the potential new oil aswell, just to help it along.

regards
james

As above, what I found with the 1.8T was the thicker oil if anything will annoy you more as from cold it will make shifting more difficult until its warmed up.

My Diff bearings started `whining` when hot a couple of years ago. Some Redline Heavy MTL fixed that and made the shift smoother.

It isn`t cheap (you need 2 `quarts`), but it definately works.
