« on: 16 April 2011, 19:49 »
hi

whats the point of the rubber ring on the driverside driveshaft?? reason i ask is its fouling my oil return and i want to cut it off,  but whats it there for?  balancing?  can this just be removed?

Thanks

it's a balancing weight / vibration damper.

Sits on the subframe, that's the steering damper weight.
I would leave it all on, removing it won't make any difference weight wise.

nice one,

so i need to take my shinny new oil return off and get one custom made to avoid it fouling the drive shaft balancing rubber

All helps with vibration, better to have it fitted tbh

just as an update for anyone that cares or may come accross this issue of the driveshaft vibration damper being in the way of the oil return for 1.8t converstion!

I cut mine off and after many miles its made 0 difference

i also left off the steering damper weight again 0 difference  that ive have noticed
