Mk2 Sciroccos and Mk1 Golfs...
« on: 16 March 2005, 18:58 »
The scirocco was based on a Mk1 golf? so what problems would be encountered if i bought a scirocco donor car (1800 injection - same as golf gti?) for my Mk1 3Dr driver? Would this be an easier conversion than one using a Mk2 golf gti donor car?

Cheers!!!

cheers - thats what i thought, just that sciroccos are easier and cheaper than their lil brother mk1 golf counterparts! well for me on the isle of wight anyway...

just weighing up my options really - i thought the scirocco was based on the golf so is the engine bay same size and layout? or is it just the chassis underneath thats the same?

Yes,the engine bay is the same and the exhaust should work (back box may need some modification) and as far as I know, the suspension and brakes will fit aswell .

VW brought out the supposedly limited run Mk1 Scirocco before they brought out the Mk1 Golf. I think they share the same floor pan and running gear.
The Mk2 Scirocco inherited the later Mk1 Golf's interior, floor pan and engine options. Although I think that as the Mk2 Golf came out, some of the bits from that made their way into the Mk2 Scirocco.

That's what I presume anyway.
My mate's Mk2 Scirocco Scala (E reg) had the same 1800 carb engine as my Mk2 D reg Golf GL, but had the Mk1 Golf style dash.

I upgraded my mk1 golf driver and used mostly mk2 scirocco part, easier to come by. The left hand engine mounting was cut out the scirocco all the front supension was used including the brakes and anti-roll ba, but you would still need to get mk2 golf rear disc brakes, they look much better.
