Timing belt tension done- Now got A NEW NOISE ?!
« on: 07 April 2005, 16:39 »
Hi all.

Thank for your advise on my 1st post re the timing belt i had it done yesterday. It turns out i wasn't just getting a piece of plastic for my money ! they changed 2 belts 2 'cogs' or round bits of metal (don't ask me i'm not a mechanic) and the plastic bits that would go on the 'cogs'.

the car feels to be running like a dream except for a new noise i don't recall hearing before !
it happens at the exact moment you push the accelerator and i after carefull listening whilst the better half manned the pedal. it seems to be coming to at or around the back of the engine (back as in furthest away from the front bumper) where the accelerator cable goes.
I can only describe it as an air sounding noise (like your letting air out of a tyre) and only happened when you first press the pedal then goes !

Don't want to sound like an idiot but i really don't know alot about engines- is this normal or should i be heading back to the garage ? :undecided:

cheers

Yeah you'll find the dumpvalve back there (just behind the engine cover) and if it's the original plastic one it could have split.  What an excuse to go and buy a new one

You will lose turbo pressure, due to the leak.  the standard dv is only plastic.  You need something like this  http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/content.asp?inc=product&cat=1703&product=FMCL007P
