Drive shaft question

Hi all,

I recently changed the driver's drive shaft and also took the hub off and had a new wheel bearing pressed in. When i put it all back together, the drive shaft popped out of the outer CV joint.

When i recieved the 2nd hand drive shaft, the outer CV joint was kind of hanging loosely off the end (if that makes sense), but after applying pressure to it, it seemed to 'go back in'.

I have retrieved my other drive shaft that was in a skip and this does not seem to do this. Has anyone else had experiences with this?

Was the 2nd hand driveshaft i recieved faulty?

the outer cv is held on by a circlip on the end of the shaft, the cv kinda pops over it. if this clip is worn then the cv will be easier to pop off, the clip should come as part of a good CV boot kit

I managed to drive around for a couple of days and it was fine, then on taking the hub off and putting it back on again, it popped out straight away, was this just luck?

they can pop off quite easily, just as long as you feel it click back in you should be alright

Are you definately talking about the outer CV joint? I have just looked at the old driveshaft and I just can't find the circlip to pull the drive shaft from the CV joint? There is a round washer type thing with rubber behind it, but this is not detachable?

So, i have discovered the CV joint literally pops off. Just give it gentle persusion with a hammer....The c-clip is permenantly on the drive shaft spline and the CV joint gets forced over the top of it....
