mot fail - headlight adjustment

Hi guys,

any idea what to do with this or guides to sort it out?

I have just came back from a mot and it failed on the headlight (nearside) not adjusting properly.

The mot guy says he has tried adjusting it but it "falls" off. He recons its a simple fix and the adjuster just needs attaching back on, does this sound right?

because I rang up a vw specialist garage afterwards and he seems to think it needs a whole new headlight at £120!!!!

any ideas?

I had the same trouble with a Clio and ended up gettin a new light for it coz the inside of the light had come apart. Check the adjuster yourself shouldn't be too complicated, if not there's always lights on ebay.

cheers for the reply matey, yeah I just checked the adjuster and it all seems fine, so new light it is then.

Anyone know of any places that sell decent stock golf head lights?

Try Ebay for 2nd hand ones.  Think they go for around £30 a side

the orignal quote from the garage aint to bad than at £120 fitted.

Either someone like GSF or Euro's or some motor factors, possibly even VW themselves as they'll have a trade account

How much they charging for fitting as its a 10 minute job.....

+1. 10 mins, 20 if you have no idea of what a screwdriver is.

Get yourself on ebay, second hand ones in good condition are 40 quid max.

If your desperate for new on the cheep then eurocarparts is properbly a good place but personally wouldn't waste time, ide either go to scrapy or ebay.

One "VW specialist" quoted me £179!!!! lol I was shocked!

I even asked them if they would be using a gen headlight at this price and he was like "no its from GFS, the job is very time consuming" lol

Another place quoted me £120 fitted (non gen part)

yeah gfs quoted me £49 for a new headlight. I take it the quality wont be best (im almost tempted to get one from there)?

there dont seem to be much on ebay atm and they are coming in at £50 delivered on average 2nd hand.

Is there a easy way to check to see if the light is adjusting properly once I have done the job?

try taking the light out and see if u can see anything
