4-Branch Exhaust Manifolds
« on: 20 March 2005, 12:46 »
Looking at sticking a four branch exhaust manifold on my 1600 GTI, possibly TSR one. Anyone got any reccomendations or experience of doing this? What sort of gains (if any) in performance and sound will it make? Also heard of potential problems due to excessive heat around bulkhead area :undecided: - anyone experienced this?

Thanks

I am currently looking at getting the performance of my cab up- the TSR one seems very reasonably priced at around 100 quid, where as the Supersprints are over 250 notes....

Is this due to differences in BHP gains?

Anyone>?

I was actually thinking about the ?219 mild steel TSR one. The ?100 one is listed as a standard polished one - not sure what sort of gains this would give?

I emailed them, they said they give exactly the same BHP increases- just the TSR one is chromed so it will last longer.

Tempting

TSR's is very loud. I have a friend who had it and changed it for a supersprint one. Better quality, less sound and same hp.

Some companies have different version for 1.6 and 1.8. Go for supersprint. Its the best and it works like a dream.

But still the difference if any would be on the outlet ports on the mani. You can always do a gasket match with your dremel tool.

Has yours currently got the 4 into 2 manifold? I was looking into this a while back as my Cabrio has that crappy 4 into 1 manifold with the C clamps. After reading an article in Golf+ a while back I decided the best option was to go for the standard 4 into 2 that was fitted to the earlier 1.6 GTI's, presumeably such as yours. Was supposed to be much better and less liable to cracking than the 4 branch manifolds. The 4 into 1 that I currently have is supposed to be much more restrictive than what you should have fitted so I'd be suprised if you saw that much performance gain...............opinions :undecided:

A.K.A. Toilet Bowl.

for a cheap alternative, you can get the MK1 dual outlet manifold with downpipe.

Don't confuse it with the MK2 dual outlet though. It has the holes slightly to the left so it will not work with the MK1 chassis.

This is the latest edition of the toilet bowl with 4 studs instead. Its also very restrictive as I found out lately....
Its used on late cabriolets with digifant engine (2H)

^^^^^^^^^spot on, the mk2 one won't work , you need the early mk1 GTI dual port into the down pipe
