Possibly a dumb newbie question, but ...
« on: 07 February 2011, 21:05 »
a tailgate from a 3dr will fit a 5dr, won't it?  (just checking before I buy one from the local scrappy).

More to the point for an average mechanic like me, are they a pain in the arse to replace?

All the same, easy enough to swap over but need 2 people really.

 :grin:to the above.  They are exactly the same and the easiest way to change them is to pull off the plastic trim that runs along the inner roof along the bootlid. Then also gently pull the pillar trim down as well. The roof headlining will then drop down a few inches to reveal two bolts that hold the bootlid on There will also be a connector on the left hand side inside the pillar trim. Unplug this. Don't forget to undo the boot struts first as well

lol thanks everyone (I think)

Cheers Deano, well useful, and forgetting the struts would have certainly have been in my capacity for incompetence!

Good luck but it will probably need 2/3 people to remove and refit. Do the wiring connector and struts first then with 2 people holding the bootlid up undo the bolts and it's done. Will be straight forward when you get going.

would agree with 3 people for fitting. nothing worse than two of u standing there holding it then realising u cant get the bolts in lol
