Clean Windscreen Of Winter Road Crap

Anyone got any tips on how best to remove the crap which has accumulated on my windscreen over the past few weeks ?

I can only assume its from the grit/salt treatments on the road and has left a nasty smear/film which I cannot get rid of even having washed car and then had a good go at the windscreen with some supermarket glass cleaner and a microfibre cloth.

Have a go with white vinegar, although it smells for a bit it works wonders
