My golf gti 8v 2.0 clutch problem...HELLLPPP!!!
« on: 22 February 2011, 18:59 »
Hi all kev here new to the site.
I have had my mk3 gti 8v for about 8 months now with no probs what so ever,
however,i went to reverse off the drive and the heard a loud clunk noise and the clutch pedal went straight to the floor, the car was still running.
Tried to put in first to get it back on the drive and it stalled,so i eventually managed to push the car on the drive but now it wont start, doesnt even try!!
I changed the clutch cable but still no joy.
The arm that the cable attaches to has good movement but not keeping the cable taught if you know what i mean.
What else do i need to check/look at? I am not a mechanic but to keep costs down i would like to tackle this myself?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

It will be the release lever inside the box or the clutch has let go.

or the release plate on the clutch has a big hole in it

fingers crossed its the arm as you can do that with the box still fitted:

As above, inhad this twice!
Best advice is follow above links, starting with the arm, just pop the green cover off the end of the box, and see if the bearing and the arm are in good condition!
If no luck there, it's a new clutch job, but my best advice would be replace the to bearing, arm and clutch, my mistake was only changing the clutch? Then a few months later it went again, turned out the arm was knackered and drilling through the pressure plate :(
Hth and good luck!

Believe me its a dead ringer for you! Even says something stupid!
