Remote Locking Issues...
« on: 25 January 2011, 03:11 »
Bought the Mrs. a V plate Mk4 GTi (1.8T) last week.
The remote locking is really starting to wind me up now.
When we bought the car it came with only one standard key, no remotes.
The day after we got the car, I got a local auto locksmith to supply and code two remote keys.
He programmed the keys to the immobiliser no problem, but unfortunately after two hours of trying was not able to get the remotes working.
Having read up on this afterwards I read about the after market HU issue.
Last weekend I removed the HU to check the wiring.
The grey/white (K-Line?) had been removed from the ISO connector at the car end, as well as the secondary permanent live (Red/White) and a blue wire.
Should the last two be re-connected?
I also replaced the HU with one I have had fitted in several vehicles. The HU works with no problems, memory retention etc.

I have check and replaced various fuses, still no joy.

The central locking works no problem using the key. (All five doors.)
The drivers lock is a little worn and stiff and does not spring back to the centre, but all other functions work even opening and closing the windows via the lock.
All interior lights are working, except for the boot light, changed bulb still not working!
Tried to access the microswitch in the latch but couldn’t get at it.

Tried various methods of programming and re-synchronising the remote all found on the net and the handbook, none of which work.

If I get the shareware VAG-COM / VCDS will this let me re-programme the remotes or will it need the full fat version?

Also both reversing lights are out, I presume the gear box switch is prone to failure?

Does anyone know the three letter code for remote locking on the boot sticker, just to double check it’s fitted.

Sorry for rambling, but any ideas guys?

Does the car have the little interior sensors above the 2 rear windows?

Not sure if the share ware version will allow them to be programmed

No, just the standard rocker type.

Thought all GTi spec had remote locking regardless of alarm.

Not sure if the share ware version will allow them to be programmed

Ok, ta!

Might sound silly, have you tried disconnecting the battery for about 30mins and then connect.

if it's an import it may not support remote locking, however you need a full version of vagcom to be able to confirm this and recode the keys assuming the remotes are the correct frequency for your convenience module (which may also need to be recoded to accept RCL). At least once a week i have people bringing cars to me with issues like this. If you struggle with it drop me an email topher@golfgti.co.uk and ill see what i can do for you.

An update...
Ordered a cable and got a shareware copy of VCDS.
On scanning the CCM it says remote "Not Oper."
I take it that the RCL function is there but not active, rather than unavailable.
Can this be turned on using full Vag-Com or will I need to acquire another CCM that supports remote locking?
CCM part #: 1J0 959 799 Q
As an aside, I ran the option codes from the boot sticker through an online checker and it came up with:
B0N = Component parts set, complying with vehicle type for Great Britain, various parts.
So I presume it is actually a UK car rather than an import.
