Anybody else seen Steve Sutcliffe's column in this week Autocar - talking about an invite he had from VW's R division to
experience their cars in Sweden with a revised ESP system that can be switched off - he says its coming soon,so you can make the
cars slide - track days etc - it says that at the moment you cannot switch off the ESP,but with this system you will - including the
GTI,not just the R models.Just wondering if anybody had more info -i.e. is it something you might be able to have re-programmed on
existing cars,or will it just be for future new cars ? (says he won't be able to make the launch)

I had a read and it seemed to me that it is a different system and they it will will still kick in if it all goes really wrong.

Similar to Porsche's PSM then?
You can turn that off completely and be a hooligan...but it keeps monitoring the sensors as well as the drivers inputs...if the PSM realises you've got a talent deficiency and the vehicle is out of control, it turns itself back on and gives one last chance of avoiding an accident...it works brilliantly.
Although in saying that, even with PSM on you can be a real hooligan as the system lets you.

Unlike VAGs ESP whigh is usually pretty nannying...although, I must admit, it's not too intrusive on the road in a Mk6 GTI.

Yes guess so, Porsche's set up is top notch.

They are saying they have changed the vag system so people can enjoy track days more.
