does it carry on running if you hold the throttle open? if so it could be the isv. if not i'd be looking at hall sensor in dizzy or the coil

What year is it? If it's after 1994 it'll have the immobilizer chip.

And just because the coil gives a spark, doesn't mean it's not faulty. The spark has to be strong, a weak spark won't get the car going as it should.

afaik its usually post-96 in the uk that were immobilised, but there could be exceptions to the rule as there usually is when year cutoff dates are involved. easy way yo tell check for the reader coil round the ignition lock, or give me the ecu part number :)

its a '94. it doesnt look like theres a chip in key. it only cuts out when cold, and when 'choke' is still on. mainly first thing in morning.

Hi mate,just a thought about your "cutting out" problem.There is a sticky thread under title "All Mk3 Owners Look Here",which covers the whole issue off cutting out and poor starting problems with the Mk3.
