the cup holders are walnut finished from the 2001 gti i was breaking

Well there's two styles

you should be able to eather way mate, just a case of taking the blanking plate out and swapping with the cup holder unit id have thaught

Probably wrong but i thought the casing was smaller on the old style one.
I have the new style but the black plastic one i am upgrading to the Netoptic and i got all the bits and the Netoptic cup holder was the old style and iam shore the casing were different between the new and old because i wanted to have the new style holders with the Netoptic but i am having to get a new style holder with Netoptic when i can, but like i siad i could be wrong

i aint sure myself, iv got the old style holders and thinking theoreticaly you should be able to mix and match stuff so long as it fits the gaps corectly..... i.e my litle cuby whole i got is ment tofit abouve the sterio and underneath the cup holders but i have mine set up like thepicture below::



So in theory you shoiuld be able to mix and match but i think the cup holder can only be at the top unless you do some seriouse choping of the dash
