Most alts these days are sealed units, mine was not so that why i went to go for the cheeper rute, you can get the compressor (bit that stops interferance on the radio) from VW for ?12 +vat, the other bit with the bushes not to sure, cant from copy parts place hense why i got a new one from GSF :wink:

Yeah there is a local guy who re furbs them. i will take it to him when i get a chance.

same happened to me just before i needed to make a 200 mile trip.  Turned out to be the alternator and the battery.  Apaarently because the alternator had gone it had managed to drain and take the battery with it.  That was an expensive weekend
