i found someone that said he didnt chop the dash as he was using an aftermarket steering wheel so he just put it in but dunno if thats right?

The wiring is the bigger problem

It will need to be trimmed at both sides too as it is too wide. IIRC you need to modify the steering rack too. I forget if there are issues with getting the centre console and gearstick/handbrake area to meet and look decent. Then there's mating all the mk4 wiring to the mk3 wiring. It's a lot of work but worth it if you are doing a mk4 engine swap too.

Not on the road enough mk3

Jimps correct, the steering rack also needs to be extended!
 MK2 VR y0!
