Bellend - If you don't have a crank sensor then it would die as it doesn't have another reference point for the ECU as to where TDC is. My Mk2 did this, whole broke off when I shut the bonnet

+1 to Dom's advice to get the static timing checked first, hopefully its just one tooth out. If the belt isn't new and has slipped I'd be changing it with a new tensioner
