Handbrake problem
« on: 21 December 2010, 16:25 »
I keep the Mk2 garaged over the winter and just take it for a run every few days. However, today, on backing it out of the garage it felt as though the brakes had bound on. On further inspection I noticed that the handbrake lever (normally stiff all the way up) is now floppy for the first couple of inches travel. I staggered off to the local garage (only half a mile or so) to book it in and it was like driving through treacle. Bizarrely, it seemed a lot easier coming back, as though the brakes at the back had released themselves. However, I still have the floppy handbrake lever.
Do you think this is just a handbrake cable jobby? Hopefully, nothing terminal.

Cheers fellas. just done a search and it seems that is exactly the problem. It's my first winter of MK2 ownership so I suppose I've learnt the hard way - won't be leaving the handbrake on again!!!!!
