When you get the stat put your finger down to the left and chech the pump blades.

got to say it does sound like the water pump, but common sense is to do the cheapest option first, would have done the temp sender and thermostat as a matter of course

i did the temp sender recently and have also just picked up a new thermostat (worth doing while i am emptying the coolant).
will let you know my findings but i am adamant its the pump.

too right, now ive got to the point where i need an M5 bolt/threaded bar to release the time belt tensioner and i aint got one (i dont think). i`m nearly there.

All done now
took it for a run and the heaters are piping hot and the temp guage sits on 90 nicely..
