Spray some WD40 into the boot lock and check the air hose to it.
Then check the air pump in the offside corner of the boot, behind carpet below light cluster.

Thanks i will have a look there if this snow ever stops

Ive had that noise for 5 years of ownership, always assumed it was normal  :huh:

its the central locking pump running - < 5secs or so = perfectly normal.

Check the pump isn't wet -if the o/s brake lights leak, the water finds its way into the pump...  Just pull the cover back on the back right in the boot, behind the rear-light and see.

Otherwise if its > 5sec then there is an air leak in the system

You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.
