aux belt prob
« on: 29 November 2010, 11:52 »
hello peeps,

not used my gti 8v (agg engine) for a couple of days, went to it 2day and it was squeelin its head of from the aux belt.
then it was tring to stall, which it did in the end and was a bi*ch to start again.

got it to fire up and it filled the car with smoke from bunning rubber and chewed the belt up

i had it servised by a mate about 2 months ago and its ran perfect, just needed a power steering belt as it was making noises as u turned the wheel evey now and then.

anyone else had this?  what did it turn out to be?

thinkin the belt might have been a bit tight and the bad/cold weather has had an effect on the belt???  :undecided:

cheers in advance

spin the pulleys by hand, see if any are stiff. the system is all self-tensioning so that shouldn't be a problem, unless the tensioner has packed in

Have you got antifreeze in?The waterpump could have froze up causing your belt to snap.Give the waterpump a spin.

cheers peeps, a mate said the same, i've got no idea about anti freeze as i've never checked it, so thats my thought as it filled the car with smoke that smelt like burnt rubber

should have thought about this as the pipes at my house so will give it a look 2moz, might drop the water and refill it with anti freeze
