V5 knocking
« on: 29 November 2010, 13:44 »
Hi

I have just bought a V5 and am experiencing some knocking, from what appears to be front axel area, on bumpy roads. I remember the ride being quite hard from previously owning one, but was unsure if I should be experiencing such noises... Is this normal?

Any advice welcomed

Thx

Wishbone bushes or front lower ball joint. Check for excess wear on  the bushes.

Probably worth checking the anti roll bar links as well.

roll bar links are abut 14 quid a pair and are a couple of bolts, easy diy job. Front wishbones can be bought complete from about 25 quid a side with all the fittings. These can be done at home as well or a couple of hours at a garage.

AlpineAddict,

Can I ask you some questions about your V5?

What sort of mpg to you get out of it?
What was it that made you go for this car?
Did your come with the 6CD changer?

The reason's for the questions are because I am (all being well with mot) picking up a V5 at the weekend. Some people seem not to like it and others like it.
Its a W reg and is spotless. It has done over 100k but this doesn't really bother me.
Have you done any mods at all?

Cheers

Hi  mate

I bought a V5 about 4 or 5 yrs back and loved it... Admittedly, I have never driven a Turbo or any of the other VW's that folk tend to prefer, but I did love it. The only reason I sold it was cos I needed to do more work miles and the VW was simply not cost effective.

However, I am now working form home and finding myself topping a massive 1000 annual miles. So I bought another... It to is spotless and I got it for £2650 on a 52 plate with 59k on the clock...

I drove it back form Birmingham, where I picked it up, and averaged about 31mpg, which I thought was pretty good. Around town though I dont expect much more than mid 20's at best... Yes it did come with CD changer, in the boot, although I know some come with them in the dash...

Hope this helps
