Quick inlet manifold question.
« on: 16 November 2010, 16:30 »
I'm looking to buy a replacement inlet manifold for my 16v GTi mk3.  There seem to be a number of these for sale on ebay.  I just wanted to check that any inlet manifold off of a 16v would fit my one?

Cheers.

As long as it's an ABF manifold, it'll be fine.
There are two types of VW manifold, with the angle of the rear 'curve' differing...and a SEAT version too...but any one will fit any ABF.

You cannot use a KR, 9A (?) or any other 16v VW type though...it needs to be an ABF, early, late, VW or SEAT.

the vacuum hose layout is slightly different early to late. early one ecu vac hose goes to one of the nipples on the chunky brake servo pipe, late one it connects direct to the back of the inlet. if you get early inlet make sure your brake servo chunky pipe has at least 1 free vac nipple on it you can use. i have seen some without any nipples on at all, which would present you with a problem ;)

look for a nipple on the back of the inlet next to the throttle body. if it has one its late, if not its early
