cd player..
« on: 15 November 2010, 23:54 »
so i just bought a new cd player for my car and im going to install it..
never done the job though so this is going to be interersting. I just need to know what all i need to hook it up. I am under the impression all i need is a harness adapter. is this correct? and if so do i need a specific model or type for an mk2? is there anything else i would need besides speakers, the stereo itself and the dash surround?
thanks in advanced for replies.

What have got in stalled at the moment?  Best thing to do it remove it and check the wiring - the ends may have been hacked off and replaced with bullet connectors.

you wont need an adaptor unless some muppet has been at your wiring. the only thing you may have to do is swap the live and ign live wires round on the stereo plug, or join borth the live and ign live together. if you look at your stereo plug on the red and yellow wires there are usually bullet connectors which allow you to do all that.

so you don't have the factory stereo plug on your car? if so some muppet has cut it off, which is nice. even if this is the case, the wiring for the stereo will be inside the dash somewhere, so look for it.

power is easy, you have a brown earth wire and a red power wire.  if its a very late mk2 there will be a thin brown/red wire which is key-in-ignition live. otherwise there is no accessory live feed, you have to add one yourself. where is your hazard switch, dash or column?

for speaker wire colours, hopefully this will help:
