mk3 boots lock
« on: 19 November 2010, 15:59 »
great..... some reason i thought i would open my boot with the key (was easyer at the time)
so put my key in, opened the boot up, closed it, went to take key back out and endded up with the lock on the end of my key.
so now my boot will not open again, with or with out the key, central locking does not unlock it too i think.

before i try taking the boot lock to bits any advice as in how the lock works. as im guessing it does unlock through the central locking, but something is not popping the boot???
hope that makes sence. cheers D

Open the boot and remove the small screw in the pocket type handle. The cover for the boot can then be popped off and you can see the full mechanism.
The barrel part the key goes into connects with a lever which pulls the release up. The central locking pump has a rod that connects to the same lever and pulls it round.
Mine was seized when I bought the car so replace the lock (£10 from ebay with new key). It didn't have the part to connect to the central locking so I just left the rod dangling and only use the key now
Only a 10 min job but you need the Torque type screw drivers to remove the lock cover.
