yep totally agree with you there, principle of the thing. should cost at most £50 for the part, and at very, very most 2 hours labour. if charged up to 20 for new pas and waterpump belts i wouldnt argue the point as well.

anything over that, and its just getting ridiculous!

just got off the phone with the garage and the final price is now £255 + vat.

This is for new water pump and coolant etc suplied and fitted and new cambelt kit supplied and fitted inc all labour.

Now for the price that is all fine and i'm happy to pay that for the work done but i'm still pissed off that they took it upon themselves to do the extra work. dont think i'll be taking my custom back there in a hurry.

Think i'm gonna ask for a haynes manual and some tools for christmas  ................ but seriously any links to good tool starter kits would be appreciated

cant go wrong with the big holfords pro kit, great starter kit with pretty much everything you need to get you started. if you can get a halfords trade card you can get a nice discount too. there are ways and means to get one yourself too ;)

ive seen advice to go on ebay and get some blank payslips, which you then print out at home with whatever details you like ;)

looks plenty good enough to get you started, the 1st tools i had was a cheapo screwdriver bit set and a small drapper socket set. got me thru the first few jobs!

this one is what i meant above, as i asy its quite pricey but it depends how much your family and friends love you

ha yeah might have to be nice to the GF and get an early christmas prezzie.

I like the cheaper one myself, looks more manly in the red drawer set . i guess the second one will be better quality though?

I have a few tools kicking about at home from what i have borrowed lol etc but want a decent set that will last.

dont think there is much in it quality wise, looks like red one is great value since its now half price
main issue with it is it only has wee ratchets in there, the other kit has proper 1/2" drive ratchet and bigger sockets. but then is it really worth £50 more!

might be wroth going into the local one then can get a feel for the kits :)
