Mk2 16V water coolant tank problems! help!

Hi guys (mk2 16V)

got a little issue which poped up this morning, went to check the water in my car and when i open the coolant tank t put some in have realised there were little plastic bits floating around. im guessing the inside of the water tank has eroded away over time and broken!

i was wondering if anyone has taken there tank of recently experienced any issues and has a how to guide to take it off and replace it? im moving house so all my manuals are in a box somewhere atm and not a chance of me finding them!

also does the dealers still do them new as i dont really want any after market rubbish idealy!

Dude ring them up (VAG) cheap as chips then you would know if they still do them yeah?

does it look liek small bits of curley pasta? if so, bad times
thats bits of your heater matrix in there, it'll soon block up completely and you'll have no heat!

Clipperjay - Hi buddy I called up the local dealer should have one in for me on wednesday so they say!

Rubjohnny - hi buddy it looks like small quare bits that have broken and also the middle part where the filter is has completly broken ans is swimming around! now ive ordered the coolant tank i hope the heater matrix hasnt gone too on saying that!

ok that sounds like better news
this is what I mean, I found bits of what looked like pasta in my header tank years ago and shortly after the matrix packed in.  at the time i had no idea the 2 were related!

Oh gosh that looks like a complete mess!! thank god mines doesnt look like that!

well I did smash the top off it so I could have a look inside

I just meant have a look the brown swirly plastic bits there, i had chunks of that in my header tank which is not good
