Mk3 Earth Locations
« on: 21 November 2010, 13:25 »
Hi All

Is there a list of the earth locations for the mk3?

Just reading through a few previous posts and one of the idling issues was fixed by tightening the gearbox loose earth.

Have a rough idle on cold aswell so going to work through the usual fixes as soon as i get a chance.

Cheers
Brian

That would have been my post.

Mine idled bad always. If its on cold only then I'd imagine its a dirty throttle body, or a dirty isv. Both very easy to clean and both will make a big difference.

However it is good to clean the earths every so often, keeps electricity flowing.

Obviously the battery terminals, then an earth from the coilpack to the cylinder head, one at gearbox, a positive at the starter motor and that the ones I can think of. I may have missed out one or two. Just follow the battery cables.
Remember to put them back on afterwards, otherwise you could fry the ecu or other stuff.

Nice one Khare

Worth having a look at these either way as more than likely they could do with a clean and tighten

Anymore keep them coming

I want an earthing kit! Probably much cheaper than OE stuff but only as good as the contact is to the earth. If your car works then its probably not worth the upgrade... But I want silver ones

Anyone else with a 1996> 16v not have an earth from the coil to the head? My Mk2 had one from the coil to the dizzy, my Mk3 doesn't. Trying to check on the net whether its missing or not but its hard to get a picture to confirm.

OP to add - sure theres some on the front of the block near the alternator, about 4 thin wires on a vertical strip and also under the battery tray:
