My mechanical knowledge is almost zero, but I really want to learn so am trying to do as much work as possible myself.
My engine bay is looking rather haggard and would like to give it a spruce up. Going to remove all the plastics and give them a damn good clean up, plus going to clean up the water bottle.
I plan to take off the rocker cover and inlet manifold and give them a clean/spray but don't really have any idea how to do this.
Is it just a case of take out the bolts that are holding them both on, clean off the old gaskets and replacing the gaskets when it comes to refitting them? Is there a certain torque that needs to be applied to the bolts when tightening up?
I've seen someone put the rocker cover and inlet manifold through the dishwasher, is this a good idea? A friend of mine suggested applying petrol to them with a paintbrush then pressure washing them down. Any other suggestions on the best way to do this?
