Questions about Brakes

Hi all,

Hope someone can answer my questions, I am about to change the brakes on the front of my car, its an anniversary diesel and the front pads/discs are starting to scour quite bad and I don't think they'll pass the MOT, and more over the brakes have become crap over the past few months anyway:

1. What in the way of aftermarket brakes is recommended? I was thinking black diamond with Ferodo pads
2. I wanted to pull the pistons out of the calipers and clean them before putting them in again. do I need vagcom for this? Wasn't sure if air would get into the abs pump or not?
3. Does anyone know the correct bleeding sequence, I have heard conflicting advice, my haynes manual says back left, back right front left then front right. But other people say do the diagonals first?

Black diamond discs and pagid fast road pads are a good combination, the standard anni setup is better than normal mk4 gti's anyway, ie better calipers/bigger discs.
Why do you want to clean the caliper pistons ? Wouldn't bother with that unless the piston seals have perished, and you won't have to worry about that for a while.
I believe the haynes sequence for brake bleeding is correct.

thanks for the reply. Since the thieving ba$tards nicked my wheels the brakes haven't been right, probably more psychological than anything else, also the handbrake is sticking slightly (it goes clunk wheni pull away) - Every time i take it to the dealer they say its been fixed and it hasn't. I was going to give them a total overhaul hence taking the pistons out. On my old car which was a toyota starlet, it was simply a case of pressing the brake pedal a few times until it pushed the piston out. Refil and it works.

On the golf I have read around that you may need to use vagcom to get the air out of the abs pump.

I had a look on motorsportworld and they are charging around ?200 for the discs. I think they are the same as the R32 (312mm vented)
