Mk3 16v GTi revs hunting at idle - help please
« on: 14 October 2010, 08:43 »
Hi,

I have had my GTi 16V Mk3 for a year now and when I first got it I replaced spark plugs, distributor cap and arm, all vac lines plus the two suggested relays as it was stuttering on acceleration, it wasnt that bad bad but it didnt really solve the problem so have just learnt to live with it.

But now when the engine is warm and at idle the revs either get stuck at just under 2,000rpm or hunt between there and about 800rpm.

Any ideas please? I'm sure I have read a thread about this on here somewhere but cant find it.

Many Thanks

David

pull the plug for the lambda probe, if problem solved you need a new one. also pull the plug from the dizzy, see if that helps anything.  ideally get it on vag-com then you can read tyhe measuring blocks showing you what the ecu is seeing from the ecu temp sensor, inlet temp, throttle position etc.

the plug for it is attached to a bracket on the rear engine mount bracket, its a 4 pin plug :)
