Engine revs not constant when idling

Hi

My 1.8t AUM dosent idle at a constant rev it keep dropping to about 600 then flicks up to about 800 its the actual rev and not just the needle. i did post this topic a couple of weeks ago and was told it prob was a loose hose ive checked everything cant see anything that may cause an air leak. any other ideas anyone as it pi**ing me off.

hello, try checking your emissions filter as on mine the rubber gromit was split
and so idling strangley also you can spray some stuff (not sure of the name)
into the idle valve to clean it out. This is what an RAC bloke done
to mine when the engine cut out suddenly!

cheers for that, not sure where the emmisions filter or idle valve is located. can someone tell me where they are located
