Declaring Modifications

I've just insured my first car, VW Golf mk3 1.4 which cost me £2040 for the year :embarassed: I'm only 18 and only been driving a week even though I passed my test well over a year ago! I don't want to invalid my insurance if I was to change a few things on my car though.

I was interested in adding mk4 style headlights, clear/smoked rear lights, clear indicators and front indicators/fog lights, back box exhaust (mainly to make it sound better) and some nice alloys OR some VW ones from another model.

Will I need to declare any of this or would I still be insured if I just left it, would they just not cover the cost of any of the "modifications"

make sure you tell them EVERYTHING!! because anything you miss/ dont tell them and you prang it... you insurance is void.. shouldnt go up much tbh.. if its only little bits and bobs

undeclared mods = void insurance. At your age, expect any mods, cosmetic or otherwise to seriously increase your premium. We've all been there, it's a b!tch but good things come to those who wait

Yeah I thought that would be the case I could ring them and ask them how much it would go up but then I don't want them to assume I've done the mods  and not declaring them because of the price xD

When i first passed my test i had a MK1 Clipper Cab with the Wide arch Karmann kit. It had aftermarket alloys, a straight-through pipe, lowered over 60mm, the works.

Stupidly, i never told my insurance any of it. Luckily i didn't prang it but still some jealous toerag slashed the roof to get at the CD player, and i had to fork out £400 odd for a new roof. I would never ever do anything to my car again without telling them about it. It just ain't worth it.

Just to echo what others are saying. If you are going to mod then make sure you declare everything you do. If you don't you will get raped. Simples.

I don't think they would worry about that tbh, insurance companies look for any possible way to avoid paying out. If you have undeclared mods and have an accident then they're laughing! They've got your £2k and don't have to pay out a penny!
