does 399 for cambelt kit (assume this includes everything) and water pump at VW sound reasonable?
You positive the sound will go once its been changed?

NO IT WONT.  In all three threads you've been told its the CHAIN not the belt thats causing the diessel like noise.  IIRC CHAIN and tensioner replacement is closer to £900 at a stealers.  The price for the belt however is decent.

BELT is on the left hand side of the engine as you look at it from the front.  CHAIN is on the right hand side and is internal to the block.

Hmeah,

I cannot respond to pm's on this site yet, not got enough posts.

I had my cambelt and tensioner replaced under the vw warranty. Not sure what engine code mine is, its an ed30 07 plate and had about 50k on the clock. I know some people have also had the water pump changed during this fix but mine was not. The car has been fantastic since having this work done and would strongly recommend getting it sorted if you have the same issue. Seems to be a common occurance.

That is a problem with some ed30s. The camchain rattle is something else. :wink:
