BAH - the last hurdle and its a biggie
« on: 25 September 2010, 00:21 »
OK, so I've fitted the front 2 coilovers, magic. Now I'm fitting the rears and I've come across a problem..

See the bolt he's holding, at the bottom of the strut.. I've been unscrewing it for about 20 minutes and it's not coming outwards.. it's still kinda got tension on it when unscrewing but I'd expect that given the shock weight is on it... Any way of getting it out I can't prize anything in behind the bolt head to lever it out..

Only thing I can think of is drilling it out, but the positioning would make it a VERY awkward job, unless you undo the other side then the top mounts and drop the beam down for more room.

Thanks!! Yeah it wasn't one of my brightest moments.. I worked it out in the end and it really does involve some steady hands getting the nut back on for fear of losing it!

Well, 3 coils on and just trying to get the 3rd strut out and my legs have had it, no energy left so going to take it back up tomorrow morning  Productive  nights work anyway!

It should be a captive nut (welded on), mine was.

That's what I expected too according to the how-to's. Frankly it was a 'mare getting those bolts back in. This morning I was sure the nut went sailing down the axel whatsum.. The language and ferocity was quite alarming  Thankfully I found it on the floor and was extra careful the next attempt.

Anyhoo the car is now on JOM coilovers and seriously, the ride is LUXURY! I couldn't believe it seriously its better than my standard shocks and springs, if a little bouncy when the roads uneven but no noises, rattles, pulls or anything untoward. It's not slammed on it's arse but plenty low.

Got my exhaust sorted today too thanks to custom crafts in elgin.. flames and pops ahoy
