Am I doing this right
« on: 20 September 2010, 14:07 »
I have thought about posting this on here before and I would like to know peopls opinion about whether I am doing the correct things - I usually do this every couple of months and then use Autoglym Aqua wax every time I clean the car. By the way it is a Dragon green MK3

I wash with Meguires Gold class shampoo
then use Zaino Z-A10 all in one cleaner / polish
Then Z2 Pro Show car sealant
and Zymol Carbon wax to finish

What I really want to know is what people think about the process that I do am I using products that go well together and also what opinions are about the use of the aqua wax..

One other thing thaty I have always wonderd about is how to get all of this stuff off to start from scratch?

your process looks ok to me,

ive used z2 before and not liked it so dont touch it now but if it works for you thats all good, havent used zymoll carbon but have heard good things so keep using that if it works for you. aquawax is fine to use inbetween washes so keep going with that.

to remove all the above you need to give it a good wash obviously and either use a good tfr or a strongish apc to completey remove crap and it will remove the sealant and wax partially, then clay and re wash, get a good single polish not an all in one and polish the car by hand or machine, machine for correction and hand just to remove surface stuff, and then your finall stages which you already know about so go for it.

hope this helps

Dan

Meguiars Step 2 Deep Crystal Polish (Pure Polish)
Meguiars NXT Tech 2.0 Wax (Polish + Wax)
Meguiars Gold Class Clear Coat Liquid Wax (Polish + Wax)
DoDo Juice Lime Prime Lite Pre-Wax Cleanser (Non-Micro Abrasive Cleaner + Polish)
Autoglym Super Resin Polish (Micro-Abrasive Cutting Agent + Polish)
Poorboys Polish Blue with Carnauba Wax (Polish + Wax)
Voodoo Ride Silq Synthetic Liquid Polish (Pure Polish)

menzerna range, 3m, and what im going back to which i used to use in my training days farrecla polishes and pads.

most of the commersial polishes are high in fillers to make it easier for the average user to get results, the stuff we use in the trade is much more aggresive and gives a true finish but these polishes are unforgiving so not for the untrained in my opinion.

menzerna and 3m are imho the best commersial polishes available. using good pads and using them correctly also contributes to the finish.

Jeez

Cheers guys for the replies still a little confussed

This is such a mine field - just been looking at the menzerna polish looks good for the price  - which one is the best one to use for my car and should I use a sealant with it?

yep the menzerna range is very good in my opinion and perfect for vag paints,
you can buy 3 250ml bottles all with different stages of cut for about £25.

after you've polished you can use a sealant alone or top the sealant with a wax for more gloss and protection.
