Identify my hose!

Evenin' All

I need some help to fix my Missus's MK3(R reg). There's a hose (that's split) at the front of the engine block that links a black plastic box to some other mystery part of the engine just to the right of the dipstick. The hose is tapered at the top end and is straight through with no take offs. Anyone know what it is, where I can get one & what's it likely to cost.

As you can probably guess I'm (not) a mechanical genius but am able to swap this over myself so don't want to pay a garage.

Dumb ass question no. 2. Does it make much difference if it's split our can I just fix it with gaffer tape?

It will make a difference if split, yes as a temp measure gaffer tape will do but better to replace the hose asap.
