gear shifter

is it possible for me to remove the gear shufter mech out of my 90 spec 1.3 and put it into my 16v GTI??

i want to do this as the shifter was re built and and the one on the 16v is pants.

iirc i have to undo the exhaust, heatsheild and then the four bolts holding it up.

only bit that will work is the stick and the ball housing. the rod is different. prob easier to just change the ball housing if thats the worn part, see my gear linkage faq can do it with exhaust still on car
