VR6 Service
« on: 17 January 2005, 15:12 »
Sent my VR6 in for a 20k mile service this morning, just had a call to say the service is finished, and a report on the inspection.

Needs new rear discs and pads   I let them do it as changing the rear discs with the bearings in sounds well beyond my DIY capability or inclination!

Needs a new tail light bulb, which vw wanted ?18 to do!!!!!  They claim it's 20 minutes labour, and i quote "it's not a straightforward change, the technitian will need to take parts out of the boot to gain access".   Last time i changed a rear bulb it involved such complexity as unclipping the bulb tray, and although the boyonet fitting was a tough one to work out i managed it in a bit less than 20 minutes.

And they found a split vacuum hose, which will be changed.

So it should be running nicely when i get it back.

Another example of dealership incompetence/laziness though, it's due a 40k service but as the only difference is plugs and air filter, i decided a 20k service would be enough, they did a 40k service anyway, despite the advisor confirming 20k mile service to my face this morning.  I just succesfully argued that i'm only paying for a 20k service.  Which is nice.

And to add insult to financial injury they gave me a Polo SDI as a courtesy car!

A VR6 isn't a way of life, it's just a car.
