Fixed stalling problem but...
« on: 19 August 2010, 11:03 »
Hi, I have spent the last week or so fixing the very common stalling at junctions with revs plummeting problem on my 16v kr with success but now the revs don't plummet fast enough!! So changing gear is 1 constant rev! I'm wondering if the engine is running to rich? It also takes longer to start from cold.

When fixing the stalling I just cleaned the isv and with the red wire unplugged adjusted the idle to around 950, I'm pretty sure I have no vacuum leaks to unless I missed somewhere!

Cheers carl.

check the idle switch clicks, the wee linkage on the top of the tb likes to gum up so it wont close properly. undo the 13mm nut on the top and remove upper linkage arm and the bushes + spring. clean it all up, grease and refit. make sure you dont trap the spring in the plastic bushes or it will bind, when correctly fitted the arm should be completely free to move and will easily spring closed to hit the idle switch. if that doesn't help, loosen the 2 screws holding idle switch on and move it till the linkage hits it

Thanks rubjonny, I was having problems with the switch but I only sprayed it with wd and loosened the throttle cable as it seemed a little tight and it does hit the switch now although I will deffo take it apart and clean it now. Is there anything else I should look out for if it's not the switch?

Thanks Carl.

have a look at the wiring, and make sure the cable isnt sticky. had same issue in my mk1 due to the routing and it being a little dry. popped it off the tb end and sprayed a bit of silicone lube down it, that did the trick. apart from that check all over for air leaks, and check the idle & co not the isv has been sorted.

if it still does it try disconnecting the over-run cutoff valve plug, its the big black/grey plastic thing behind the airbox :)

Ok I have cleaned and greeced the throttle leaver and it's 100% better and the revs are now sorted! The only other problem is that with the isv plugged in it's idling abit high even with the screw turned right in? I'm sure there's no vac leaks and I have cleaned the idle screw out too.

Carl.

might be worth resetting base idle and co as per the faqs now you have sorted the idle switch :)
