ESP Light and remapping

I have a MK 5 Golf GTi which has been remapped.  Recently the ESP light came on and my local mechanic says I need a new sensor.

The local VW dealer says that this will negate the remap but the firm that did the remap say it does not have to happen.

Who is right??  Help???

I cant see how replacing the ESP sensor will negate the remap . . ?
