repairing electric windows
« on: 30 August 2003, 17:04 »
My drivers side electric windows has completly droppped into the door!!!

I have taken the black door panel off to expose the metal panel, The bolts securing the metalic panel have now been removed aswell, that allows the panel to move about 1 inch all round, but there seens to be something stopping the panel coming totally off so I can get at the glass... anyone any idea's ???

When you remove the door panel on any V-dub you should see the plastic membrane that needs removing carefully as they are no longer available from VW, If you do rip it you can make one out of plastic so its not to drastic if its lemon curd.

I don't understand what metal panel you are talking about.

Also when you remove the glass from the car it has to go up and out through the top of the door after removing the window seals. sounds to me like the securing bolts have come adrift and allowed the glass to drop. although thats very rare as the regulater has a little pin sticking out that engages on the glass bottom channel so that it holds it in place to allow you to undo the bolts to adjust the glass in the door.

my window dropped in also, and it was down to the motor in the door, a part VW fixed for free, well, replaced for free after i rang the customer services at head office. When u try to lift the window using the button does it make a grinding sound ? if so then its the lifter.
